Question Tags and Responses

We use question tags to form questions from statements. They are added onto the end of a sentence. An auxiliary verb is used in a question tag.

Negative Question tags are used for positive statements when we want the answer to be ‘Yes’

Examples of negative question tags are :
We are going out tonight, aren’t we?
Yes, we are.

They are hardworking pupils, aren’t they?
Yes, they are.

Positive question tags are used for negative statements when we want the answer to be ‘No’
Examples of positive question tags are :
We aren’t going out tonight, are we?
No, we aren’t.

They aren’t lazy pupils, are they?
No, they aren’t.
